Oenanthe javanica Other Names: Chinese Celery, Japanese Parsley, Water Dropwart, Minari (Korean), seri (Japan). Water celery is native to Australia (Qld) and many parts of Asia. This plant tastes like celery, carrot and a hint of coriander. Described by some as a little sweeter and less bitter than standard celery. Growing: Full & Partial Sun or Dappled Shade. Keep very well watered. Grows well in wet, fertile soil, rich in organic matter. Grows well on pond edges, and in semi-submerged conditions. Traditional Uses : Found in many Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean and other Asian Countries’ dishes. This plant is of the seven herbs eaten in Japan’s Spring Festival - Nanakusa-no-sekku.
